Opal Modena Johnson, 87 years and 37 days old, passed to heaven on June 28, 2010 at home.
Opal was born May 22, 1923 in Ava, Mo., to Hersell and Ellen (Wilson) Prine.
Opal was a housewife, and a lifelong resident of Ava. She was united in marriage to Bill Solomon, and to this union three children were born. He preceded her in death. Later, Opal was united in marriage to Nova Johnson on Jan. 15, 1946 in Arkansas, and to this union six children were born. Nova preceded her in death in 1985.
Opal was a Christian and of the Baptist faith. She loved sewing and traveling, and playing cards. Gardening and fishing were things she loved to do as well, and she enjoyed being with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Opal was preceded by her parents; both her husbands, Bill Solomon and Nova Johnson; a son, Mack Johnson; a daughter, Susie Solomon; a grandson, Dean Deatherage; one great-grandchild, Jastin McGown; two brothers, Jerry and Bazil Prine; and two sisters, Susie Hanney and Sally Hall.
Opal is survived by seven children, Violet Richards, Spring Hill, Fla., Wilma Potts, Ava, Wilbert Johnson, Mansfield, Eddie Johnson, Ava, Gertie Willis, Mansfield, Elba Solomon, Thornfield, and Billy Solomon; 22 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren; five sisters, Beulah Essary, Bettendorf, Iowa, Alma Tillberg, Davenport, Iowa, Lois Woods, Hampton, Ill., Fay Chapman, Farmersville, Texas and Joyce Looten, Macomb, Mo.
Funeral services will be Saturday, July 3, at 10 a.m. in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with burial in the Springcreek Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, July 2, from 6 to 7 p.m. in the funeral home. Officiating will be the Rev. Tom Johnson.
