The Douglas County Commission recently announced it would place two ½-cent sales tax proposals on the ballot in November.
Since that time, the Herald has received conflicting information from Douglas County Sheriff Chris Degase and the County Commission as to exactly what the money would be earmarked for and how the money would be spent.
When we receive information that can be confirmed by both the sheriff and the commissioners, we will publish articles and press releases to inform local citizens about the proposed jail and/or justice center project.
Until the two entities can get together and work out their differences, the Herald will not publish information released by either office.
