Ava Kiwanis Club News 7/1/10

We are missing some “regulars” that are on vacation this week.  On Friday night, several came out to help in the booth as we made funnel cakes at Heart of the Ozarks Nursing Home Fireworks.  We had enough help that we rotated which helped.  Thanks to John and Chad for moving the booth.  Members who worked were Glenda Little, Denise Reese, Connie Cornelius, Julie Posey, Donna Dixon, Mancell and Connie Cornelison, Dolores Davis and Teri Sliger.  Non-member Evan Little helped out some as well.  Glenda has reported that the booth has been moved from there since.

Two “events” will be happening at this week’s meeting.  First, this is the week designated to bring nonperishable or cash donations for the food harvest.  Secondly, we have Loretta Burgin coming to talk more with us about the Community Garden Program which we are considering becoming involved with.

We meet at noon on Thursday at Highway House Cafe.  The public is invited to join us.  At next week’s meeting, Susan Mellentine will be speaking to us about Stroke Prevention.

Glenda and Donna have made plans to go to Harrison, Ark., on July 10 for Club Officer Training. This is part of the Distinguished Criteria.  Our next big event will mean taking our booth to Douglas County Fair where we will be selling funnel cakes, strawberry shortcake and Red Diamond Iced Tea.

For program scheduling or information, call Donna Dixon at 683-1918.  For general information about our club or activities contact Glenda Little at 683-6167.
