Elvis Volner Found Guilty Of First-Degree Murder

Late Wednesday afternoon, June 16, a Douglas County jury found Elvis Volner guilty of first-degree murder in the 2008 murder of Dustin Skaggs.
Volner, 23, of Cabool, was also found guilty of first degree robbery and armed criminal action.
A sentencing date has not been set.
The case was prosecuted by Douglas County Prosecuting Attorney Chris Wade.
Dustin Skaggs, 20, of Ava, went missingĀ  Feb. 10, 2008. He was found six days later in the trunk of his car at the bottom of a water-filled quarry near Lebanon.
Volner’s brother, Benny Volner, 32, was convicted in March on the same charges. He was sentenced in May to two life sentences plus 25 years.
Dennis Volner, a cousin of Elvis and Benny, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to 15 years in prison in November 2009.
Dennis’ wife, Julia (Monnahan) Volner, 31, is scheduled for trial here in October on the same three charges as Elvis and Benny.
Authorities believe the motive for the murder was that Benny Volner thought Skaggs was having an affair with his (Benny’s) wife.
