Ava City Council Approves Budget

The Ava City Council approved the 2010-2011 budget at their regular meeting on June 22.

Administrative Director Peggy Porter said no members of the public appeared at the budget hearing, but some employees came, and their concerns and suggestions were discussed.

The council approved the budget by a 4-0 vote.

Janice Lorrain, director of planning & development, said that the planning and zoning commission has been hard at work looking at current zoning regulations.

She said they plan on doing an overhaul of the abandoned sign ordinances.

The commission will be looking at how other cities handle abandoned signs before drafting new guidelines for the city council to approve.

Lorrain said that the contractors for the city water project are currently working on clean up.

The council approved the May court docket and the accounts payable.

Council members present were Billy Long, Judy Lovan, Burrely Loftin and Ric Engelhardt.

The next regular council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, July 13 at 5 p.m. in City Hall.
