
Hilda enjoyed flowers, gardening, family and cooking Hilda J. Jenkins, 90 years, passed to heaven on Aug. 6, 2009 at Christian Health Care of Nixa, Mo., with her family by her side.
Hilda was born Dec. 14, 1918 in Pansy, Mo.. to James and Maggie (Stone) Gastineau.
In 1935, Hilda and Thetis V. “T.V.” were united in marriage in Douglas County, Mo., and to this union three children were born. Hilda and “T.V.” established the Jenkins Oil Co. in Ava, in the mid 1940′s. They later moved to Springfield in 1957.
Hilda was a seamstress in Springfield, and retired after working for over 20 years. She enjoyed her little dog, Toodles. She also enjoyed her flowers and gardening.
Hilda loved being with her family and cooking for them. She was a Christian and of the Baptist faith.
Hilda was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Thetis V. “T.V.” in 1981; a son, Dean Jenkins, in 2008; three brothers, Charlie, Richard “Dick” and Kenneth “Pete” Gastineau.
Hilda is survived by a son and wife, Chester and Iris Ann Jenkins, Rogersville, Mo.; a daughter and husband, Carol and Cliff Edwards, Springfield, Mo.; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jessie McCain, Lake Jackson, Texas, and Peggy Francisco, Sarasota, Fla.; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Graveside services for Hilda were Monday, Aug. 10, at 10 a.m., at the Ava Cemetery. Officiating was the Rev. Tom Johnson. The family requests any memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
