She enjoyed the farm life and all it included Mrs. Eva Jewell Loomis, 94, of Cabool, passed away on Thursday, July 16, 2009 at the Kabul Nursing Home. She was born on May 14, 1915 at Anne, Mo., in Douglas County, the daughter of James Franklin and Bertha (Smallwood) Chaney.
Jewell was united in marriage to Avery Otto Loomis on Oct. 6, 1934 and to this union three children were born, Lyle, Virginia and Eugene “Pete.” They spent their entire life on the family farm in Douglas County, working the farm and raising the children. She enjoyed the farm life and all it included: the livestock, gardening, picking wild berries, cooking and canning. She was always willing to help and care for anyone in need.
Jewell was a charter member of the Pleasant Home Freewill Baptist Church where she loved attending services and she always kept a special place in her heart for her church family.
Jewell was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Otto; three brothers and one sister.
She is survived by her children, Lyle Loomis and wife, Pat, of Mtn. Grove, Virginia Thurman and husband, Jim, of Ava, and Eugene “Pete” Loomis and wife, Fay, of Mtn. Grove; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, Jack Chaney, of Mtn. Grove; and numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends. She will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Services were at 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 20, at the Pleasant Home Free Will Baptist Church near Mtn. Grove with the Rev. Paul Whittier officiating. Pallbearers were Roger Thurman, Jason Mills, Bill Mills, Eddie Rogers, Scott Bittick and Gary Bittick. Honorary pallbearer was Kendall Thurman. Interment was in the Penner Cemetery under the direction of Elliott-Gentry-Carder Funeral Home of Cabool.
