
A veteran of the Korean conflict, having served in Germany Funeral services for Jerry Preston Williams, 78, of Springfield, were held at Greenlawn North in Springfield on June 25.
He died after an extended illness on June 23, 2009 in Springfield, Mo. He was buried in the Greenlawn Cemetery.
He was a veteran of the Korean conflict, having served in Germany. He was a lifelong member of the DAV and VFW, helping many veterans with their disabilities. He had graveside military honors.
Jerry was born on Nov. 5, 1930 in Arden, to Preston and Effie Harper Williams. He married Charlene Williams July 9, 1953. They were married for 56 years.
Surviving are his wife, Charlene; two daughters, Charlotte Sawyer and Mrs. Deborah Unger; five sons, J.D., Robert, Tim, William and Brent; his stepmother, Genoba Williams, Springfield; one brother, Richard Williams, Springfield; six sisters, Lauretta Ellis, Ava, Pauline Bussard, Springfield, Barbara Cash, Louisville, Ky., Ruby Pliler, West Plains, Thelma Schweitzer, Springfield, and Brenda White, Nixa; 19 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren all of whom live in Springfield.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father; two brothers, Olean and Charley; and two sisters, Dorothy Lafferty and Mary Boner.
