
A beautiful lady and sincerely missed by her loving family Modena Cox, 87, Ava, Mo., passed away, Thursday, June 25, 2009, in her home surrounded by her caring family. She was born July 13, 1921, the daughter of Francis Luin and Clara Mae (McDaniel) Haden. On July 7, 1939 she was united in marriage to Johnie Cox at the Douglas County Courthouse.
Modena was a longtime resident of rural Ava, where she spent her life working on the farm and being a gracious homemaker. At the young age of 15, she received salvation followed by baptism in Beaver Creek and remained a faithful disciple of Christ. Her kindness, patience and unconditional love are her legacy that will survive her within the many hearts she touched. She was relied on because she could always be counted on and was willing to help make a difference. Modena will be remembered as a beautiful lady and sincerely missed by her loving family. The brightest light has gone out, but her family will celebrate her loving spirit forever.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her only daughter, Mary Frances Beason, on March 24, 2004; a brother, Aubrey Haden; eight brothers-in-law, Jack, Starlin, Virgil, Ruben and Anderson “Doc” Cox, Bill Burton, Teddy Jenkins and Bill Richards; and one nephew, Tom Cox.
Modena is lovingly survived by her husband Johnie Cox of 69 years; son-in-law, Don Beason; three grandchildren, Debbie Willis and husband Bill, Patti Chamberlain and husband Greg and John Beason, all of Ava; four sisters, Lenore Burton, Freeda Richards, Mary Alice Cox and Betty Jenkins, all of Ava; three brothers, George Haden and wife, Ethel, of Olympia, Wash., Jim Haden and wife, Irene, of Sparta, Jack Haden and wife, Bonnie, of Republic; two sisters-in-law, Mae Cox and Myrl Cox; one brother-in-law, Joe Cox; three great-grandchildren, Brandon Reed and wife, Summar, Ryan Chamberlain and wife, Rebecca, Reagan Rogers and husband, Cory; two great-great grandsons, Gavin and Blake Reed, all of Ava; several nieces, nephews, caring friends and good neighbors.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 27, in Ava Assembly of God Church with Pastor Buddy Boyd and Pastor Raymond Haden officiating. Burial followed in Mt. Tabor Cemetery, with services under the care of Barnes Family Funeral Home, Ozark. Visitation was held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the church. Donations are suggested to Mt. Tabor Cemetery or Spring Creek Cemetery.
