Marvin Charles Emrick, 75


Served his county with the U. S. Army and was active in the American Legion, serving as commander for eight years Marvin Charles Emrick was born July 13, 1933 in Douglas County, Missouri, the son of Fred L. Emrick and Hallie Mae (Adams) Emrick and departed this life June 18, 2009 at the age of 75 years 11 months and 5 days.

Marvin was a life long resident of Ava area. He was a retired truck driver and was employed with J. B. Hunt for many years. He loved driving the big rigs. He also enjoyed camping, motor cycling, boating and spending time with his family and his time with the American Legion.

Marvin served his county with the U. S. Army and was active in the American Legion, serving as commander for eight years from 1997 till 2005. Marvin headed the Boys State program in Ava, helping many young men enjoy the valued experience.

In 1958 Marvin and Gweneth Mills were married and to this union six children were born. On July 16, 1977, Marvin and Pauline E. Stoeger were united in marriage in Ava, Mo.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Pauline, and one great-grandchild.

He is survived by four sons, Fred Emrick and Leah, Rogersville, Mo., Gary Emrick and Helga, Ava, Mo., Carl Emrick, Olathe, Kan., and Jeff Emrick, Independence, Mo.; two daughters, Cheryl Emrick and Ben, Ava, Mo., and Christine and Jeff Fugate, Rogersville, Mo.; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.

Services were at 10 a.m. Monday, June 22, in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home with Pastor Gene Swofford officiating. Visitation was Sunday from 6 to 7 p.m. in the funeral home. Interment was in the Goodhope Cemetery with military services conducted by American Legion Post 112 and VFW Post 5993.

The family asks that memorial contributions be made to the American Legion or the Goodhope Cemetery.
