Earl Carl Walley, 89


He enjoyed spending time with his family and animals Earl Carl Walley, 89 years, passed to heaven on June 3, 2009 at his home with his family by his side.

Earl was born March 6, 1920 in San Francisco, Calif., to George and Anita (Peck) Walley.

Earl was a resident of Ava since 1968 moving from Pacifica, Calif. During World War II Earl worked as a foreman in the shipyards in San Francisco where he met Audrey Sellers. On March 10, 1945 Earl and Audrey were united in marriage in Reno, Nev., and to this union one daughter, Jilinda was born. While in California he worked as a milkman for Foremost Dairies and enjoyed working in real estate. After moving to Ava, Earl and Audrey owned Walley’s Five & Dime Store and later helped Jill and Rick manage Walley’s Flowers and Jill & Rick’s Fireworks. He enjoyed spending time with his family and animals. Earl was a Christian and attended the Highway Church of the Nazarene in Ava.

Earl was lovingly devoted to his wife, Audrey, daughter, Jill and his grandchildren.

Earl was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, George and his wife, Audrey.

Earl is survived by one daughter and her husband, Jill and Rick Heckendorn, Ava; two grand-children and their spouses, Colby and Erin Heckendorn, Chicago, Ill., and Kalie and Cody McHaffie, Steamboat Springs, Colo.; two great-grandchildren, Emma and Caden McHaffie; nephew, George Walley, Cotati, Calif.; sister-in-law and husband, Sharon and Jerry Wood, Ava; and other relatives and friends.

Graveside service for Earl will be Thursday, June 4, at 10 a.m. at Ava Cemetery. Officiating will be the Rev. Oren Alcorn with eulogy by Colby and Kalie. The family requests memorials to Gideons International or Oxford Healthcare & Hospice, 1550 E. Sunshine, Springfield, MO 65804 or at the funeral home. Cremation services are being conducted by Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava.
