
Lena enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening and making quilts Lena Myrtle Sallee, 92 years, passed to heaven on May 26, 2009 at Mt. Vernon Place Care Center, Mt. Vernon, Mo.
Lena was born Nov. 14, 1916 in Toledo, Mo., to Robert and Sallie (Turner) Evans.
Lena was a housewife, bookkeeper and store clerk. On Dec. 8, 1934, Lena and James T. “Jim” Sallee were united in marriage in Pondfork, Mo., and to this union two children were born. They were blessed to be together over 74 years.
Lena was a Christian and faithful in attending church. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and gardening. She especially loved cooking for others. She was known for her many handmade quilts that she made with love to give to all her family of four generations, cousins and friends.
Lena was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Ersell, Jimmy, Earl and Audie Evans; three sisters, Tema Bacon, Iva Coon and Nellie Marsh.
Lena is survived by her husband, James “Jim” T. Sallee, Mt. Vernon; two children and their spouses, Carl and Beth Sallee, Mt. Vernon, and Sally Knight and friend, Larry, of Eagle Rock, Mo.; four grandchildren, Tom Sallee and Sharon Miller, both of Mt. Vernon, Randall Prock, Monett, and Andela Wilson, Springfield; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Lena will be Friday, May 29, at 2 p.m. in the Thornfield Chapel, Thornfield, Mo., with burial in the Thornfield Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, May 29, from 1 p.m. to service time at the Thornfield Chapel.
