Marvin Chance, 67


A good neighbor who was always willing to lend a hand Marvin Lee Chance was born Aug. 26, 1941 in Ava, Mo., to Doyne and Dessie Farris Chance, and passed away at his home in Ava on May 15, 2009, after a short battle with cancer, with family and friends by his side.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara, of the home, and two children, Sheryl and Mark Chance, of Ava; three grandchildren, Travis and Lanny Wells, of Willard, and Colton and Todd Chance of Rogersville; also a great-grandchild, Clay; his mother, Dessie Miller, of Ava; two step-grandchildren, Brandon and Kyle Fultz, of Rogersville; and a brother, Larry and wife, Debbie Chance, of Ava.

On May 4, 1961, Marvin and Barbara Morisset were united in marriage in Vacaville, Calif., and to this union two children were born. Marvin worked for Hutchens Industries for 35 years and many of those years as a supervisor. He also worked in the fabrication department designing and building robotic welding equipment.

Marvin loved building and racing stock cars. He and his son, Mark, raced at Bolivar and Lebanon for 10 years.

Marvin also loved his cattle, fishing and hunting, and being a good neighbor, and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Marvin was a wonderful husband, father, son, grandfather and friend.

Memorial services for Marvin were Wednesday, May 20, at 6:30 p.m., at the Faith Rock Church in Ava, with the Revs. Robert Grisham and Mike Freeman officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice (Hospice Compassus) at the funeral home. Services were conducted by Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava.
