He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II Andrew L. “Andy” Bean, 87, of Springfield, passed away at 5:22 p.m. Monday, April 6, 2009, in St. John’s Hospital. Andy was born April 26, 1921, in Ava, Missouri, to Luther M. and Ethyl E. (Blakey) Bean. He was a very active member of St. Agnes Cathedral and especially enjoyed the senior’s groups.
Andy served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He graduated from Southwest Missouri State University where he was a member of the Tau Kappa Alpha Fraternity.
During Andy’s working career he was employed by General Motors, Andy Bean Advertising Company, and Chase National Life Insurance Company. In 1975, he was named Mr. Chase for being the number one state director.
Andy was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Joan Bean of the home; his sons, Rick Bean of Springfield and Steve Bean of Osage Beach; his stepchildren, Mark Brown and Julie Breuer both of Columbia, Mo.; several nieces, nephews and many friends.
Funeral mass was at 12 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, in St. Agnes Cathedral with Fr. Mike McDevitt celebrant. Visitation was from 6 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service starting at 7 p.m. Monday, April 13, all in Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home. Private burial will be at a later date in Resurrection Cemetery.
