Juanita Spurlock Christensen, 86


Juanita was reared and attended school in the Ava area Juanita Spurlock Christensen passed away March 25, 2009 in Hanford, Calif.

Mildred Juanita Cameron was born Sept. 23, 1922 in Granada, Douglas County, Missouri, the eldest of five children born to Lillie Mae (Cornelius) and Chester Dewey “Sport” Cameron.

Juanita was reared and attended school in the Ava area.

On Nov. 5, 1938, Juanita married John William Spurlock in Mountain Grove. Juanita and John moved from Missouri to Selma, Calif. in 1945. They had four children.

Juanita worked in the family business and later took a job with the Fresno County Welfare Department, where she retired.

In later years, Juanita and John enjoyed their beach home at Morro Bay, Calif. Following 50 years of marriage, John passed away on Dec. 31, 1988. Later Juanita married Ernie Christensen. After Ernie’s death, a few years later, Juanita moved to Hanford, Calif. and lived at The Remington Retirement Center.

Juanita is survived by her four children: Ronald Roy Spurlock, of Redding, Calif., Glenda Sue Sanders and husband John E. of Durant, Okla., Johnnie Douglas Spurlock and wife Pam of Hanford, Calif., and David Cameron Spurlock and wife Patty of Kingsburg, Calif. She is also survived by nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Pauline Pittman and Betty Forbes, of Selma, Calif.; and one brother, John Dewey Cameron, of Cutler, Calif. She is also survived by one uncle, James Cameron, Mansfield; two sisters in-law, Lula Kellogg, of Farmington, and Lela Nash, of Greenwood; and one brother in-law, Charles E. Spurlock, of Squires; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins in Douglas and Ozark counties.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Monday, March 30, at Page Funeral Chapel, with burial following in the Floral Memorial Park in Selma Calif.
