Fern I. Ewing, 86

Hard working and selfless, she taught through example Fern Ewing, 86, a kind and gentle soul, left this world as she slept in the morning darkness of March 30, 2009 at Brighton Gardens Assisted Living in Prairie Village, Kan.

Fern was ready for this final journey. She moved from Springfield, Mo., in 2004 to live with her daughter and family – years they will cherish forever.

Fern was born September 20, 1922 in Douglas County, Mo., the first daughter of Otis and Hattie Hedrick (later Tate). Rare is the bond that the girls and their Mother enjoyed throughout their lives, and how lucky they were to experience something so special. After a 30-year marriage that kept her moving from coast to coast, Fern married Robert Ewing in 1976. He treated her like the princess she truly was until his death in 1993. Theirs was a union they had waited a lifetime to enjoy. They are together again and their love carries on.

Fern was always hard working and selfless. She chose to make the best of bad situations and taught through example that a smile and a positive attitude can get you through anything that life hands you.

Fern is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Nick Peroff of Prairie Village, and two granddaughters, Amanda Peroff of Overland Park and Deidre Peroff of Bellingham, Wash. She was preceded in death by her Mother, Hattie Tate; her husband, Bob Ewing; and her sister and brother-in-law, Maxine and Robert Massey.

Good-bye, Little Lady. How dear you were to us. How much we learned from your caring ways. We will miss you so. Hugs, please, to Grammy, Maxine, Robert and Bob.

Visitation will be 12:00-1:00 Saturday, with services to follow, at Greenlawn Funeral Home South in Springfield, Mo. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery.
