A sister to two Ava residents Mrs. Nona Claudine Rushing, age 84, of Metropolis, Ill., passed away at 2:20 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 1, 2009 at Southgate Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Metropolis.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7, at the Rushing Cemetery in Ozark, Ill. Rev. Terry Mathis will officiate.
Mrs. Rushing was the former owner/operator of the Metropolis Beauty Center.
She is survived by her two sons, Randy Rushing and wife Kathy, and Mark Rushing and wife Vicky, all of Metropolis, Ill.; two grandchildren, Zachary Rushing, Houston, Texas, and Amanda Holbrook and husband Daniel, of Metropolis, Ill.; three sisters, Billie McGill and Sybil Heckendorn, both of Ava, and Jo Baker of Albuquerque, N.M.; a brother, John Everett, of Ava; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James William and Mae (Sherman) Everett; husband John Roy Rushing; a son Leslie Birmingham; three brothers, Jim Everett, Virgil Everett, and Leslie Everett.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 6, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home in Metropolis, Ill.
