Lonnie Lowell Krider, 67

A loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend Lonnie Lowell Krider, son of the late Oscar Lee and Goldia A. (Slate) Krider, was born on Dec. 4, 1941 in Champion, Mo., and passed away on Jan. 20, 2009 at his residence in Douglas County, Mo., following a 13-month battle with cancer. He was 67 years, 1 month and 16 days of age.

Lonnie grew up in the Champion community where he attended school through the eighth grade. He graduated from Ava High School in 1959. He attended Southwest Missouri State and graduated in 1966. He received his masters in 1968 from the University of Missouri in Columbia.

He was united in marriage to Karen Upshaw on Oct. 12, 1968 in Champion. Five children were born to this union. They made their home on a farm in Douglas County where Lonnie enjoyed tending to his farm duties and caring for his cattle until last November when his health started failing.

He taught school for the Strafford School district for a short time and was a vocational and a high school counselor for Mtn. Grove School for over 27 years.

Lonnie was baptized in 1958 and was a longtime member of the Champion Church of Christ.

He was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandchildren and visiting with his many friends and neighbors. He loved playing bluegrass music around the community for many years. He was also a member of the Skyline Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed helping and serving others around him.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Carl Lee Krider.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Karen Krider, of their home; one son, Leslee Krider and his wife, Breauna, of Springfield, Mo.; four daughters and their husbands, Linda and Marty Watts of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Teahna and Brian Oglesby of Perry, Mo., Tanna and Roger Wiseman of Marshfield, Mo., and Staci and Dustin Cline of Seymour, Mo.; two brothers, Donald Krider of Peoria, Ill., and Harley Krider of Elmwood, Ill.; one sister: Vivian Floyd of Rogersville, Mo.; six grandchildren, Dakota and Dylan Watts, Eli and Emerson Rose Oglesby, and Foster and Kalyssa Wiseman; nieces; nephews; church family, and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss him very much.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 24, 9:30 a.m. in the First Freewill Baptist Church, Mtn. Grove, with Bro. Steve Watts officiating. Song selections were “When I Hear The Master’s Call,” “I’ll Sail Away Home Some Sweet Day,” “Precious Memories,” and “Wait A Little Longer.”

Pallbearers were Doug Hutchison, Darrell Hutchison, Wes Smith, Wayne Anderson, Wayne Wiseman, and Jerry Owens. Burial was in the Denlow Cemetery under the direction of the Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home, Mtn. Grove, Mo.
