
Leonard Doil Sanders, son of Burl T. and Bertha (Alcorn) Sanders, was born on April 29, 1930 in Douglas County, Mo., and departed this life on Jan. 6, 2009 in Seymour, Mo., at the age of 78 years.
Leonard was a resident of the Seymour community since 1994 moving from Ava, Mo. On March 17, 1950 Leonard and Wilma Maxson were united in marriage in Ava, and to this union three children were born.
Leonard served as Douglas County Sheriff for many years. He had also worked for White River Electric for over 20 years and he was a farmer.
Leonard was a member of the Black Oak General Baptist Church of Ava.
He enjoyed serving his community and loved his family dearly.
He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Clarence “Tom” Sanders.
His is survived by his wife, Wilma, of the home in Seymour; three children and their spouses, Leo and Theda Sanders, Leasburg, Mo., Marjorie and Murl Pierson, Mansfield, Mo., and Duane and Debbi Sanders, Seymour, Mo.; six grandchildren, Tritonia Sanders, Leslie Anne Coffman, Robert Pierson, Brittany, Christina and Brianna Sanders; three great-grandchildren, Travis E. Pierson, Josiah A. Coffman and Trevin M. Devore; two brothers, Loren Sanders, Davenport, Iowa, and Lester Sanders, Ava; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services for Leonard will be Friday, Jan. 9, at 2 p.m. at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with Revs. Jason Wharton and Oren Alcorn officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Tabor Cemetery. Visitation is Thursday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home. The family requests memorials to the Douglas County Historical Society or to the donor’s choice of charity.
