Opal Carpenter, 77


She especially loved her children, great- and grandchildren Opal Carpenter, daughter of Roy Satterfield and Macie Othel (Rice) Satterfield, was born on Jan. 14, 1931 in Willhoit, Mo., in Ozark County and went home to Heaven on Dec. 27, 2008 at the age of 77 years.

Opal was a resident of the Ava community for about 10 years moving from Seymour, Mo. She was a retired nurses assistant with St. John’s Hospital in the Cardiac Unit. Opal was a member of the Diggins Southern Baptist Church. Opal was an expert seamstress, cook and gardener. She enjoyed her birds and animals. Most of all she especially loved being with all her children and grand- and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, infant daughter, Sandra Kay Keeler, infant granddaughter, Amanda Lynn Sallee, a brother, Cecil Satterfield, a son-in-law, Tim Cantrell and the fathers of her children, Dale Keeler and Junior Carpenter.

She is lovingly survived by a son, Gary Keeler, Hoquiam, Wash.; three daughters, Pam Cantrell, Fordland, Debbie Hampton and husband Marvin, Seymour, and Rhonda Sallee and husband, Mickey Ava; and eight grandchildren, Missi, Crystal, Latosha, Billy, Kassidy, Skyla, Colton and David; seven great-grandchildren, Chance, Keeley, Derick, Brittney, Koby, Blake and Asha; one sister, Thelma Melton, Republic, Mo.; five nephews; a sister-in-law, Betty Satterfield, Ava; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Graveside service for Opal will be Wednesday, Dec. 31, 10:30 a.m., at Sims Cemetery, Gainesville. Visitation was Tuesday, Dec. 30, from 6 to 7 p.m. at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava.
