Charlie Edward Henderson, 86

World War II Army Veteran, employed with Rawlings 18 years Charlie Edward Henderson, 86, of Mt. Vernon, passed away at 6 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 23, in the Missouri Veteran’s Home, Mt. Vernon.

Charlie was born on Jan. 10, 1922 in Mansfield, Mo., to William and Norma (Lord) Henderson. He was a World War II Army Veteran, was employed with Rawlings Company in Ava for 18 years.

Charlie worked as a grinder for the Rayco Steel Plant in Springfield, was a member of the Viola Baptist Church and enjoyed square dancing with friends in Springfield. He and his wife moved to Mt. Vernon from Shell Knob, Mo., several years ago. On April 20, 1973 he married Firn Henderson in Springfield. She survives.

Additional survivors include: daughters, Becky Thomas of Theodosia, and Charlotte Jones of Fair Grove; two stepsons, Bill Stanford of Mt. Vernon and Blake Stanford of Monett; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and numerous step grandchildren.

His parents, first wife, Vera Henderson, stepsons, Benny and Bob Stanford, seven brothers and sisters and one great-grandson, Charles McCullough preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held at 12:30 p.m., Monday, Dec. 1, in the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home, Mt. Vernon. Burial, with full military honors, were at 2:30 p.m., in the Missouri Veteran’s Cemetery in Springfield.
