
A life long resident of the Ava area Dorothy Mae Howerton, daughter of Virgil Horner and Maggie (Chapman) Horner, was born Oct. 8, 1930, and passed on Oct. 10, 2008, at the age of 78 years.
Dorothy was a life long resident of the Ava area. She was employed with White River Electric for 47 years and also prepared taxes. In 1969 she and Mr. Harold Howerton were united in marriage in Ava. Dorothy loved flower gardening, going to garage sales and auctions and helping others.
Dorothy was on the Ava Housing Authority Board for several years. She loved going on hunting trips with her husband, Harold, to Colorado. She loved life and her family.
Dorothy was a member of the Ava General Baptist Church and the Eastern Star.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold; and one sister.
She is survived by a sister, Thelma Collier and her husband, Noah, Bartonville, Ill.; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Revs. John Haskins and Oren Alcorn officiating. Interment will follow in the Thornfield Cemetery, Thornfield, Mo. Visitation will be today (Thursday), 6 to 8 p.m., in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Neighbor Helping Neighbor.
