Laverne Hutchison, 85


Laverne was a lifelong resident of Douglas County Laverne Hutchison, daughter of Clarence Bishop and Daisy (King) Bishop, was born on Feb. 24, 1923, in Vera Cruz, Mo., and passed away on Sept. 8, 2008, at Heart of the Ozarks Health Care Center, Ava, Mo., at the age of 85 years.

Laverne was a lifelong resident of Douglas County, Mo. On Dec. 30, 1941, Laverne and Hubert Hutchison were united in marriage and to this union four children were born. She was retired from working 18 years at Rawlings Sporting Goods in Ava. She was a Christian and faithfully attended the Happy Home Church. Laverne was a member of the Bryant Flint Extension Club.

She loved gardening, quilting, gospel singing, yard sales, cooking for others, volunteering at the senior citizens and most of all she loved spending time with her family.

Laverne was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother, Walter Bishop; and two sisters, Opal Reed and Betty Hinman.

She is survived by four children, Carol Day and husband, Arnold, Mansfield, Mo., Anne Hutchison and Wilma Pointer, both of Mtn. Grove, Mo., and Larry Hutchison and wife, Tammy, Mansfield, Mo.; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and she was joyfully expecting her first great-great-grandchild this coming March of 2009; one sister, Pauline Winkler, Independence, Kan.; a half sister, Patsy Hinman, Fredonia, Kans.; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Services were Wednesday, Sept. 10, at 10 a.m., at the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Revs. J.W. O’Neal and Paul Welch officiating. Interment followed in the Ava Cemetery. Visitation was Tuesday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home. The family requests memorials to Gideons International.
