Born on Punkin Creek in Douglas County Kenneth Leon Maggard, of Hermitage, Mo., passed away Aug. 27, 2008, at Citizens Memorial Hospital in Bolivar. He suffered a massive heart attack following surgery for colon cancer.
Kenneth was born on Punkin Creek in Douglas County, July 30, 1934, the son of Cleveland and Stella (Nelson) Maggard. Kenney grew up in western Douglas county and had many friends and family in this area.
He was married to Anna Jean Woodmansee in January 1963. To this union one son was born, Duane Maggard. Another son, Jeff Smith, was also raised in the home. His wife, Jeanie, preceded him in death May 9, 2008.
Besides his wife, Kenny was also preceded in death by his parents, Cleveland and Stella Maggard; a sister, Goldie Filbeck; a brother, Hosea Maggard; and a special nephew, Ronnie Maggard.
He is survived by his boys, Duane and Jeff; four sisters, Eula Shortt, Edith Maggard, Bernice Reaves and Janet Cokley and husband, Don; and two brothers, Melvin Maggard and Edwin Maggard and wife, Pauline; several nieces, nephews and many other friends and relatives.
Services were conducted by the Rev. Lee Maggard near Pleasant Hope. Burial was in the New Bethel Cemetery.
