Elnora Gray Tierney, 82

Taught 10 years in rural schools of Ozark County Graveside funeral services for Elnora Gray Tierney, 82, were held Tuesday, Aug. 26, with Bro. Dean Preuett officiating. Burial was in the Griffith Cemetery.

Mrs. Tierney died Friday, Aug. 20, 2008, in Independence, Mo. She was born April 24, 1926 at LaJunta, Colo., the daughter of Otis and BeEtta Marsh Gray. She and Bob Tierney were married Feb. 27, 1954, in Ozark County. He preceded her in death in October 1992.

She was a member of Beaumont Baptist Church of Kansas City. She taught Sunday school as long as her health permitted, supported missions, and accompanied her group of girls to church camp. Mrs. Tierney was an elementary school teacher for 45 years, 10 years in the rural schools of Ozark County and 35 years for Hickman Mills Schools. She retired in 1988, then worked at a preschool for 10 years. She loved to crochet, read and especially to travel. She traveled to most of the 50 states and many foreign countries.

Mrs. Tierney is survived by one sister, Sue Robirds and her husband, Estel, of Theodosia; one brother, Fletcher Gray and his wife, Carolyn, of Pleasant Hope; two nieces; one nephew; great-nieces; great-nephews; and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and one nephew.
