Hugh Stout, 96

An accomplished outdoorsman, he the Ozark woods Services for Hugh Stout, of Lawrence, Kan., who passed away at the home of his daughter on Aug. 12, will be held at the Blanche Community Church, Blanche, Mo., at 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 16, with interment following at Blanche Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday evening Aug. 15, at the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava.

Hugh was born April 27, 1912, at Blanche, the son of Jake and Ada (Bell) Stout. He was the last surviving member of nine brothers and sisters.

Until he moved to Lawrence in 2003, he lived in rural Douglas County where he was the proprietor of rural grocery stores, farmed and for a short time carried the mail.

He enjoyed his garden and was an accomplished outdoorsman who loved hunting, trapping and fishing in the Ozarks woods of Douglas County.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 77 years, Gertie, a son, Doyle, and an infant son, Dallas.

Survivors include his daughter, Virginia, and husband, “Skeet” Smith, of Lawrence, Kan.; grandchildren, Randy Joe Stout and Rick Stout, of Drury, Sheila Brown, Ava, Terry Copp, Hosford, Fla., Shellie Bhinhar, Owasso, Okla., Kathi Smith, Moran, Kan., and Susan Allen, Bozeman, Mont.; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be sent in care of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, in favor of either Douglas County Kansas VNA/Hospice or the Blanche Cemetery.
