A veteran who served in Vietnam with U.S. Marines, CPL Charles Benjamin “Chuck” Cooper, Jr. was born on Nov. 22, 1947 in Alexandria, Va., and passed away July 29, 2008 in a auto accident along with his father in Shannon County, near Winona, at the age of 60 years.
Chuck was a resident of the Drury community for most of his life. He was a veteran and served in Vietnam with the U.S. Marines, CPL. He was formerly manager of the Ava License Bureau for Douglas County and also was operator of Cooper Cattle Co.
Chuck was a member of Ava VFW #5993, NRA, and the Shriners. He had attended the First General Baptist Church in Ava.
On March 27, 2001, Chuck and Christy Elliott were united in marriage in Hardy, Ark.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents.
His survivors include his wife, Christy Cooper, of the home in Drury, Mo., two stepsons, Joey and Kendra Harris, and Michael Carter, all of Mansfield; two step-grandchildren, Chase Harris and Brianna Carter; a sister, Charlene Stahlman, Rogersville; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services for Chuck and his father, Charles, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Rev. Robert Roberts officiating. Interment for Chuck will be scheduled at a later date and time at Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield, with full military honors.
