Erma F. Lane, 84

She enjoyed canning, cooking, taking care of family Erma Fern Lane, daughter of the late James and Jennie (Redd) Hale, was born Aug. 19, 1923. She left this world on June 28, 2008 at 10:15, following a long illness, at the age of 84.

On April 14, 1942, she married her soul mate, the late Martin B. Lane. To this union seven children were born. She enjoyed canning every summer, cooking and taking care of all her family. Erma was a Christian and attended the Springcreek Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Jennie Hale; her loving husband, Martin B. Lane; one son, Walter Lane; four brothers Clifford, Jack, Jimmy, and Elgie Hale; and two sisters, Tressie and Edna; along with one grandson, Ronald Lee Gonzales, and one great-grandson, Kurtis Wayne Gonzales.

She is survived by four sons Lester Lane, Lindell “Toby” Lane, Martin Jr. Lane all of Ava, and Joel Lane and wife Kathy, of Sparta; two daughters, Karen Lane, of Ava, and Sharon and Allen Brunson, of Commerce City, Colo.; 24 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Carl Hale, of Salem, and Orland Hale, of Bolivar; four sisters, Gene Schmidt, of Polk, Willa, of California, and Dorothy and Elma, both of Bolivar; two special grandchildren who took care of her, Debbie and Michelle Lane; special nurses that were like family, Rita Owens and Brenda Bunch; and two special nephews, Bill Dugan and Jim Manning, along with Hospice family, and the Pyramid family, and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be today (Thursday July 3) at 10 a.m. in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Rev. Tom Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in the Fannon Cemetery.
