Retired from Owens-Corning Fiberglass 25 years Ralph Allen Goos, son of Fredrick August Goos and Maude Anna (Darling) Goos, was born Feb. 10, 1914, on the family ranch north of Almeria, Neb., and passed away June 9, 2008, at the Heart of the Ozarks Healthcare in Ava, Mo., at the age of 94 years. He attended a rural one-room school and graduated from Loup County High School in 1932. He later taught for four years in the same school he attended as a boy.
On Aug. 23, 1936, Ralph married Irene VanHouten in Thedford, Neb., and to this union seven children were born.
Ralph and Irene farmed and ranched in Nebraska until they moved to Ava, in 1952. In 1959, they moved to Tonganoxie, Kan., where they lived for 32 years, moving back to Ava in 1992. Ralph retired from Owens-Corning Fiberglass Company after working for them 25 years. He was a member of the Friends Church in Tonganoxie as well as attending the Girdner Church and First Southern Baptist Church while living in Ava.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene; his parents; three brothers and three sisters.
His survivors include seven children and their spouses: Carl and Mary Goss, Ava; Ralph (Pete) and Anna Goos, Lee’s Summit, Patty and Russell Heatherly, Ozark, Sally and Roy Murphy, Shreveport, La., Judy and Jerry Fleer, San Diego, Calif., Donita and Bob Moore, Muskogee, Okla., and Paul and Debbie Goos, Tonganoxie, Kan.; 20 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren and extended family, as well as a host of nieces and nephews; and one sister, Etta Percell, Topeka, Kan.
Services are Friday, June 13, at 10 a.m., at Clinkingbeard Chapel in Ava, with the Rev. Hugh Campbell, Rev. Robb Hodson and Rev. Gary Swearengin presiding. Interment will be in the Ava Cemetery. Visitation is today (Thursday, June 12) from 7 to 8 p.m. at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home.
