An Ava graduate and military veteran Funeral services for Ronald Lee Hamby, 73, Caulfield, Mo., were at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2008, at First Baptist Church, West Plains, under the direction of Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.
Mr. Hamby died 5:37 p.m., Friday, May 30, 2008, at Ozarks Medical Center. He was born June 29, 1934, at Ava, Mo., the son of Ernest and Edith Robertson Hamby.
He graduated from Ava High School, and on Jan. 21, 1956, was married at Ava, to Phyllis Pettyjohn.
Mr. Hamby was a veteran having served with the U.S. Army. He was, also, a real estate agent, developer and was a member of the National Association of Realtors. He enjoyed dairy farming, hunting, fishing, and loved playing music and singing. His family was the number one thing in his life.
Mr. Hamby was a member of the First Baptist Church, West Plains. Throughout his life Ron was active at various churches serving as deacon, Sunday school teacher and music director.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Hamby, of the family home; three sons, Rick Hamby with wife, Beverly, Rod Hamby and wife, Rhonda, and Joe Hamby with Angie, all of West Plains; eight grandchildren, Rodney Hamby Jr., wife, Holly, Amanda Jenkins, Brandi Anderson, David Tomovick, Grant Hamby, Katie Hamby, Jacob Hamby and Canton Ford; three great-grandchildren, Taylor Hamby, Hayden Hamby and Laken Anderson. He left one sister, Reta Watterson, Mansfield; and many nieces and nephews.
His parents; three brothers, Rex, Russell and Ray Hamby; and two sisters, Remah Hamby and Reba Hobbs, precede him in death.
Burial will be at Howell Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Gideons International.
