Erma Cooper, 90

A loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother Erma Fay (Friend) Cooper passed away Friday, Feb. 22, 2008 at Heart of the Ozarks Health Care Center in Ava. She was 90 years old.

Erma was born in Thornfield, Mo., on March 15, 1917, the daughter of Harrison and Maude Friend. She married Loyd Cooper on Jan. 2, 1932, at Hammond. To this union five girls and two boys were born.

On Feb. 13, 1949, Erma was baptized at Hammond. She attended church at Hilltop until her health wouldn’t allow her to go. She loved to make quilts. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Mrs. Cooper is survived by her children, Pauline Adkisson and husband, Tom, of Springfield, Norma Steele, of Kansas City, Kan., Imogene Pierce and husband, Gene, of Lebanon, Sue Murphy and husband, Dwain, of Mountain Grove, Darrell Cooper and wife, Barbara, of Mountain Grove, and Harold Cooper and wife, Pam, of Thornfield; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren; three brothers and eight sisters.

Erma was preceded in death by her husband, Loyd; one daughter, Mona Foster; one grandson, Mark Stephen Foster; two sons-in-law; her parents; three brothers; and six sisters.

Funeral services for Erma Cooper were held Monday, Feb. 25, at 10 a.m., at Thornfield Chapel, with Stan Collins officiating. Burial was in the Thornfield Cemetery. Visitation was Sunday, Feb. 24, from 2 to 4 p.m., at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home in Gainesville.
