Served in the U.S. Navy Anthony Tony Barnum, son of Clifford Eugene and Mary Marie (Novak) Barnum, was born May 25, 1937 in Douglas County and departed this life Feb. 19, 2008 at the age of 70 years, 8 months, and 24 days.
As a young man Tony served in the U.S. Navy and then worked for several years for Dayco. Most recently he enjoyed a good game of pool or could be found delivering meals to the sick or elderly through the “Meals on Wheels” program. He will be greatly missed.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents; wife Willa Mae Barnum; and one brother, Lavern “Barney” Barnum.
Survivors include one son, Mark Anthony Barnum, of Knob Knoster; four stepchildren, Carol June Gott, of Mansfield, Jimmy Johnson, of Ava, Joe Johnson, of Hartville, and Karen Turner, of Maysville; two brothers, Dale Barnum and wife, Yvonne, of Biloxi, Miss., and Earnie Barnum, of Ava; five sisters, Geraldine Walker, of Ava, Pat Szczechowski, of Marshfield, Maxine Turner, of Ava, Barbara Short, of Ava, and Mary Lee Myers, of Ava; one granddaughter, Abigail Mae Barnum, of Ava; and several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with burial in Ellison Cemetery. Visitation is from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Friends may call at the funeral home after 12 p.m. Friday.
