Graduated from Ava High School and joined the Army Ellis L. Giffin, son of Elmer and Irene (Huffman) Giffin, was born Jan. 9, 1933, near Ava, and died Feb. 10, 2008, at Jenks, Okla.
Ellis graduated from Ava High School and joined the Army after graduation. He served in Korea and worked for the United States Post Office as a rural mail carrier in Wichita, Kan., for 43 years. He took early retirement from the post office in 1990 to help his brother-in-law, Chuck, take care of sister Anna Jo who was dying of cancer.
Ellis got reacquainted with Dorothy Harnden Hunt at a high school reunion in Ava. They were married Aug. 18, 1995, and have lived in Jenks, Okla., to date. Ellis passed away at home on Feb. 10 after a lengthy bout with cancer.
He enjoyed family and friends but especially his grand- and great-grandchildren. He was an active member of Bethany Church in Broken Arrow, Okla.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; two brothers, Marvin Giffin, Mansfield, and Norman Giffin, Seymour; a sister, Beverly Freeman, Neosho; one daughter, Cindy Miller, North Newton, Kan.; four great-grandchildren, Cheyene and Greg Frost, Cade Simons and Riley Sharp; and his step family, Mark and Mary Sharp, Justin and Anna Sharp, Brett and Drew Sharp, Kye and Julie Hunt Hudson,and Brad and Aubrey McKelvey Cameron Hunt.
He was preceded in death by both parents, his son, Dennis Van Giffin; a sister, Anna Jo Graves; brothers, Noel Giffin and Wayne Giffin; and a granddaugh¬ter, Stephanie Frost and stepson, David Hunt.
