Elda J. McLaughlin, 88

A very talented lady who had many interests Elda J. McLaughlin, 88, was born Nov. 11, 1919, in Paragould Ark., to parents Lemuel and Hazel Kennedy Owens. On Feb. 2, 2008 she departed this life in Springfield.

Elda moved with her family from Arkansas to California when she was a young lady where she met Douglas McLaughlin and married him June 23, 1967 in Carson City, Nev. They moved to the Ava area six years ago.

She had worked at several jobs in California. She was a very talented lady who had many interests. Her cooking was a special treat for her family and friends as she shared many different dishes. She loved to solve crossword puzzles and answer TV game show questions. Her phone calls to chat with friends brought joy and happiness to her friends. She cared very deeply about her family and enjoyed spending time with them.

Elda was preceded in death by her parents, Lemuel and Hazel Owens; her son, William Stepp; and sister, Almera.

Elda is survived by her loving husband, Douglas McLaughlin; one granddaughter, Brenna Barbara Stepp; one great-grandson, Owen Stepp; and one great-great-granddaughter, Maya Stepp. She will also be missed by friends she has met in her life’s travels.

Graveside services were held at the Ava Cemetery Feb. 5, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Brad Hudson officiating. The family requested that memorial contributions be made to Gideons International. Ava Family Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.
