Myrtle Hicks, 98

A resident of the Ava community most of her life Myrtle Hicks, daughter of Harrison Tetrick and Mary Catherine Driskell Tetrick, was born on May 14, 1909, in Trail, Mo., in Ozark County, and passed away with her family by her side on Jan. 21, 2008, in Marshfield, at the age of 98 years, 8 months and 7 days.

Myrtle was a resident of the Ava community most of her life. She was a housewife and loving mother. She was married to Otis Collins and to this union eight children were born. He preceded her in death. Later in years she married Rube Graham and to this union one daughter, Mary, was born. Rube preceded her in death. On Feb. 13, 1976, Myrtle and Earl Hicks were united in marriage in Marshfield. Earl preceded her in death in 1982.

Myrtle was a member of the Ava Church of Christ. She enjoyed music, working in her flower bed, quilting, reading and cooking for her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, one brother, Floyd, two sisters, Maude and Lulu, one daughter, Marie Hicks, two sons, Floyd Dale Collins and Don Collins, and an infant child.

She is survived by five children and their spouses, Charles Dean and LaVerne Collins, Fair Grove, Bonnie Haskins, Muscatine, Iowa, Fena and Herb Johnston, Lakeview, Ark., Dexter and Lynne Collins, Buffalo, Iowa, and Mary and Johnnie Crain, Muscatine, Iowa; 23 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Iva Berry, Drury; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A service for Myrtle will be held today (Thursday, Jan. 24) at 10 a.m. in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home chapel with Brad Smith officiating. A visitation will be held from 9 a.m. till service time.
