A resident of the Ava area for the past 18 years Zola Marie Somers, the daughter of Harold Graham and Edith (Turner) Graham Percifield, was born Sept. 6, 1936, in Squires, Mo., and departed this life Nov. 7, 2007 at the age of 71 years 2 months and 1 day.
Zola was a resident of the Ava area for the past 18 years and had also lived in upstate New York. She was employed in the fabric department with Wal-Mart for 13 years. Zola loved gardening and picking walnuts in the fall. She also enjoyed quilting. She attended Murray Church. Zola adored and loved her family.
On Nov. 11, 1985, Zola and Stuart W. Somers were united in marriage in Gallupville, N.Y. Zola was preceded in death by her father; two sons, Mark and Vernon Whittiemore; and one sister, Wanda Myers.
She is survived by her husband, Stuart Somers, Ava; her mother, Edith Percifield, Squires; three children, Sherry Whittiemore, Phoenix, Ariz., Lew Whittiemore, Port Orange, Fla., and Brent Whittiemore, Summersville, S.C.; one stepson, Eugene Somers, Esperance, N.Y.; 13 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; one sister, Eula Lakey, Ava; one brother, Richard Graham, San Bernadino, Calif.; and a host of other relatives and many friends.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Rev. Tony Turner officiating. Interment will follow in the Murray Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday, from 6 to 7 p.m. in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Community Hospice of Mtn. Grove at the funeral home.
