A truly caring lady always ready to help others Edith Izez (Barnett) Bailey, 82, was born Nov. 21, 1924, in Denison, Texas to Leslie Barnett and Ruby Akers Barnett. She departed this life Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2007, at her home in Ava.
Edith moved to Ava two years ago to be near her family. She had worked as a telephone operator, operating a switchboard in her early years and later at the Gravette Shelling company and also in the office of the Gravette Hospital. She proudly served as mayor of Gravette, Ark., for several years.
Friends who knew her considered it a blessing to have known her. She was a truly caring lady who was always ready to help others; her acts of kindness really made her an unforgettable lady. She was a longtime member of the LDS Church.
Edith was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Charles R. McCorquedale and Stanley E. Hulce; daughter Betty Walker; and granddaughter, Donna Kay Walker.
Edith is survived by her husband, Jabe E. Bailey, of the home; one daughter, Leslie DePoortere Nelsen and son-in-law, Don Nelsen, of Ava; granddaughter, Renee Stillings and husband, Bryan, Ava; and three great-grandchildren, Aaron, Caleb and Emily. She will also be deeply missed by a host of friends and other relatives.
Private memorial services are planned at a later date. All arrangements were under the care and direction of Ava Family Funeral Home. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Douglas County Library or the American Diabetes Association.
