Joseph Edward Hunsaker, 85

Lived in Ava and Kansas City most of his life Joseph Edward Hunsaker, age 85, Mansfield, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2007 at St. John’s Hospital, Springfield.

He was born April 27, 1922 in St. Joseph, the son of Harrison and Jessie (Points) Hunsaker. On Aug. 17, 1942, he married Emogene Dennis in Bradleyville. She preceded him in death Feb. 10, 2002. He married Nora (Miller) Deatherage in June 2002.

Mr. Hunsaker lived in Ava and in the Kansas City area most of his life. He lived in Holden for 10 years and moved to Mansfield in 2004. He worked as a roofer for Standard Roofing in Kansas City for 26 years and at Cornell Roofing in Independence for 10 years. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Nora, of the home; two sons, Wallace and wife, Carol Hunsaker, and Chris and wife, Cindy Hunsaker, all of Holden; one daughter, Linda and husband, Tom, of New Hampshire; three stepchildren. Margaret and husband, Delmar Rosseau, Ava, Violet and husband, Johnnie Flair, Springfield, and Helen and husband Earnie Cook, Mansfield; three brothers, Frank, George and Doug Hunsaker; two sisters, Gerald Dean Gillette and Anna Belle Beard; three grandchildren, LeAnn Blasius, Amber Hunsaker, and Sarah Hunsaker; and two great-grandchildren, Sierra Blasius and Lindsey Blasius.

He was preceded in death by a son, Jay Dean Hunsaker, four brothers, and three sisters.

Funeral services were at 5 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 6, at Ben Cast & Son – Wood Funeral Home, Holden, Mo., with Clayton Foss officiating. Military honors were by Holden American Legion Post 90 and V.F.W. Post 5844. Cremation was under direction of the funeral home.
