Lived in Ava for the past six years Dorothy L. Ruston, daughter of James Walter Ward and Mattie Alice Fisher Ward, was born on Sept. 6, 1931, in Lauderdale County, Tenn., and passed away on Sept. 17, 2007 in her home in Ava, at the age of 76.
Dorothy was a homemaker and lived in Ava for the past six years, moving from Las Vegas, Nev. She grew up in Halls, Tenn. Dorothy was a member of the Antioch Church of Christ in the Halls area. On Feb. 3, 1957 Dorothy and John Ruston were united in marriage in Corinth, Miss., and to this union seven children were born. Dorothy enjoyed sitting on the porch and watching the birds. She loved being with her family.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Paul and Emmett, one sister, Roberta and one son, Jerry Ruston.
Her survivors include six chil¬dren and their spouses, Roger Ruston, Ava, Jan Ruston and Scott, Johnny Ruston, Las Vegas, Nev., Judy and Johnny Chapman, Nixa, James and Wendy Ruston, Clovis, Calif., and a grandson, whom she adopted and raised, Gary Ruston, serving in Iraq with the U.S. Army; one step-daughter, Betty Ruston, Jacksonville, Fla.; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four brothers, Donald Ward, Halls, Tenn.; Bobby Ward, Ozark, Franklin Ward, Dyersburg, Tenn., and Ed Ward, near Little Rock, Ark.; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Service for Dorothy will be at 10 a.m. today (Thursday) at the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with Brad Smith officiating. Visitation was Wednesday from 6 to 7 p.m. in the funeral home.
Graveside service will be Friday at 2 p.m., at the Antioch Cemetery, Halls, Tenn., with Phil Meeks officiating.
