Formerly of Ava Doris Anderson Gettys, 78, of Springfield, formerly of Ava, was born on March 9, 1929, to Ralph and Hilda Hartmann Anderson in New York City. She departed this life Aug. 15, 2007, in Cox South Hospital, Springfield, after a long and happy retirement in Ava.
On Oct. 4, 1952, Doris was united in marriage to Guy H. Gettys in Flushing, N.Y.
She is survived by her husband, Guy, and their three children, Dale and James Blodgett, Walnut Creek, Calif., Susan and Sidney Harvey, Smithtown, N.Y., and Guy H. and Jill Gettys, Flemington, N.J.; 11 grandchildren; and her sister and spouse, Ruth and William Walter Combs, Pembroke Pines, Fla.; as well as many other relatives and friends.
Doris was an active member of the Ava Highway Church of the Nazarene and the Douglas County Historical Society.
Graveside service for Doris was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, at the Ava Cemetery, with the Rev. John Moles officiating. Visitation was held prior to the service at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava.
