Perry Neal Lakey, 64

Born in the Sweden community of Douglas County Perry Lakey was born on Jan. 12, 1943, the son of Ira and Zelma Nall Lakey, in the Sweden community of Douglas County, and departed this life in Pueblo, Colo., on July 20, 2007, at the age of 64.

Perry was born into a large family where everyone had to do their part to make ends meet so he started work at an early age and continued that work ethic even after retirement. He enjoyed simple things and hard work, but after the job was done he dearly loved to bass fish.

Perry is survived by his wife, Eula, of the home; one daughter, Sandy Lakey, of St. Peters, one son and his wife, Steve and Lori Lakey, of Cameron; a grandson, Shane Hasbrouck, and a granddaughter, Amanda Lakey, both of Cameron; 11 step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild.

Perry is also survived by his stepdaughter and her husband, Denise and Larry Dryer, of Ava, and stepson and his wife, Chris and Shantell Goodnight, of Republic.

Survivors also include his five brothers and their spouses: Alvin and Mary Lou Elliott of Gunnison, Colo., Noble and Bonnie Lakey, and Leon and Colleen Lakey, all of Ava, and E.J. and Bonnie Lakey, and Larry and Lorraine Lakey, all of O’Fallon; and several nieces and nephews.

Perry was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Norman and Leo.

Funeral services for Perry Neal Lakey will be today (Thursday), at 10 a.m., in Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Rev. Don Graham officiating. Burial will follow in Denlow Cemetery. Visitation was held Wednesday evening from 6 till 7 p.m.. in the funeral home. Memorial contribution may be made to the charity of choice at the funeral home.
