Always willing to help his neighbors and friends Robert Russell (Russ) Broge was born May 7, 1934, in Monroe, Wisc., to Robert Leo and Helen Frances Hofmeister Broge. He departed this life Friday, July 6, 2007, at his home near Ava.
On Dec. 5, 1964, Russ and Donna Haack were married in Monroe, Wisc.
Russ was a friendly person who was well liked by all wherever he went, from the coffee shop to the music parties.
He was always willing to give a helping hand to his friends and neighbors. He retired about 12 years ago as a truck driver which gave him more time to devote to improve his golf game and invent and create things. He was a master inventor whose challenge was to take several items and consolidate them to discover a totally different, but useful item. He moved to Missouri about 13 years ago. He enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, and enjoyed being outdoors and working in his lawn.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Joel Robert Broge.
Russ is survived by his wife, Donna, of the home; two sons, Jeffery Broge and Jerry Broge and wife, Lynn; one daughter, Beth Ann Broge; three grandchildren, Rachel, Jacob and Sarah Broge; four brothers, Gary Broge, Virgil Broge, Byron Broge and William Broge; five sisters, Joyce Wahl, Carol Bayrhoffer, Bonnie Broge, Sharon Broge and Diane Jones; a host of relatives and friends; and his special cat, Cooter.
Memorial services were conducted Monday, July 9, at 6 p.m., in the Ava Family Funeral Home.
