Charles Pike, 78

A resident of the Ava area for the past 11 years Charles Pike, the son of John Leland Pike and Grace Breeding Pike, was born Aug. 6, 1928 in McKinney, Texas, and departed this life June 23, 2007 at the age of 78.

Charles was a resident of the Ava area for the past 11 years, moving here from LeClaire, Iowa. He served his country during World War II with the U.S. Navy. On Dec. 1, 1961 Charles and Zola Beavan were united in marriage in Rock Island, Ill. Charles was a member of the Baptist Church.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and four sisters.

His survivors include, from the union with Elizabeth Dunaway Madison, three children, daughter Doris Elizabeth Madison McLaughlin of Waynesboro, Va., Joyce Ann Morris, of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, and son Charles Leland Baker Pike, of Waynesboro, Va.; and his wife, Zola, of the home, Ava, and their daughter, Debra Kaye Tufford, of Bon Aqua, Tenn.; also 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Glenda Morrow, Post, Texas; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 26, at the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home in Ava, with Chaplain Belva Tarrent officiating. Interment was in the Brushy Knob Cemetery.
