A lifelong resident of the Ava community Delmar Merle Guthery, 81, Ava, passed away June 20, 2007.
He was born Aug. 16, 1925 in Ava, the son of George Guthery and Fay (Sanders) Guthery.
Delmar was a lifelong resident of the Ava community. Delmar was an entrepreneur and business owner of Douglas County. He loved to work. Some of the occupations that he did included farming, truck driving, carpentry, construction and etc. At one time he also served as an auxiliary policeman and also served as Ava City Alderman.
He was also an antique tool demonstrator for Silver Dollar City for seven years. Delmar was a “Jack-of-all-trades.”
On Oct. 17, 1948, Delmar and Jessie May Stancil were united in marriage in Union Gap, Wash., and to this union three children were born. Jessie preceded him in death in 2001. On Aug. 17, 2002, Delmar and Elizabeth (Spurlock) Wilson were united in marriage in Ava.
He was a member of the Church of Christ and later attended, with Elizabeth, the First General Baptist Church in Ava. Delmar enjoyed antiques, traveling and being with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Fay; his wife, Jessie May; one brother, Damon; one sister, Norma Duckworth; and one grandson, Stephen.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, of the home in Ava; three children, Ruth Ann Billado and husband, Doug, Richford, Vt., Nancy Parr, Ava, and Elmer Merle Guthery, Theodosia; one step-daughter, Judy Mitchell and hus¬band, Norman, Ava; six grandchil¬dren; three step-granddaughters; six great-grandchildren; 10 step-great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Norman Duckworth, Ava; a sister-in-law, Maxine Rosseau, Ava; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services for Delmar will be Saturday, June 23, at 2 p.m., at the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Revs. Robert Roberts and Marvin Loftin officiating. Interment will follow in the Ava Cemetery.
