Leo Wayne Harmon, 79

A long time resident of the Ava area Leo Wayne Harmon, the son of George Loman Harmon and Opal (Workman) Harmon, was born June 30, 1927, in Garrison, and departed this life May 2, 2007, at the age of 79.

Leo was a long time resident of the Ava area. On July 10, 1945 Leo and Gloria Fletcher were united in marriage at Forsyth. Leo and Gloria were blessed with four children.

Leo worked as a logger and was a veteran, having served his country in World War II in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Breedon Freewill Baptist Church as well as the American Legion Post 112.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, G.W. and Loren, and a daughter, Janice Collins.

Leo is survived by his wife Gloria; three children, Wayne Harmon and wife Ginger, of Ava, Aleita Harvey and her husband Leonard, of Camden, Ark., and Roger Harmon and wife, Melissa, Springfield; a son-in-law, Robert Collins, Forsyth; eight grandchildren, Kenneth Harvey, Camden, Ark., Christopher Harvey, Fayetteville, N.C., Ryan Harvey, Camden, Ark., Shane Harmon, Omaha, Ark., Robert Harmon, Bradleyville, Jackie Clements, Taneyville, Robin Fulkerson, Kirbyville, and Sara Blair, Bradleyville; 13 great-grandchildren, one sister, Virginia Cook, Bois D Arc; many other relatives, friends.

He was a beloved pastor and minister.

Services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 5, in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Revs. Don Brynildson and Vernon Fuller officiating, with interment following in the Goodhope Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post 112 and VFW Post 5993.
