Moved to Missouri in 2000 Robert Leroy Burns was born Dec. 13, 1938, to Robert Franklin and Dorothy Marie (Weir) Burns, in Anderson, Ind. Bob went to the Lord on April 26, 2007, at 1:05 a.m.
He graduated from Ben Davis High School and the Indiana State Police Training Academy. He worked for the Indiana State Police for 35 years in all manners of criminal investigation. He retired in 1994 as a commander in the Major Drug Section. He was then promoted to Chief Cook and Bottle Washer with his wonderful wife, Nancy.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy; sons, Scott Burns, Chris Burns and wife, Debbie, and Larry Burns and wife, Pam; stepchildren Scott E. Cover and wife, Samantha, Brandi Haskett and husband, Ryan and Amber Cover; a brother, Donald Burns and wife, Patty; sisters Julia Burns, and Jan Goetsch and husband, Tom; as well as several nieces, nephews, grand- and great-grandchildren.
On July 14, 1979, he married Nancy Kay Cover. Bob and Nancy decided to move to Missouri in 2000. They fell in love with the Missourians and friendliness of their neighbors. They enjoyed Missouri Fox Trotters even before moving to Missouri.
A celebration of life memorial service was held Tuesday, May 1, at 10 a.m., at the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava.
Bob served as chairman of the board for SMMBCH, president of DCFTHBA Affiliate, and chairman of the MFTHBA Trail Committee. He also served on the Ethics Committee, Budget and Finance Committee and is a lifetime member of the MFTHBA. He was also a member in good standing with the Ava Saddle Club. He was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to Community Hospice in care of the funeral home.
