A resident of the Ava area since 1980 Mary Elizabeth Melton, the daughter of Walter Bullard and Emma May Pooler, was born May 12, 1917, in Independence, Mo., and departed this life April 18, 2007, at the age of 89.
Mary was a resident of the Ava area since 1980 moving here from Inglewood, Calif. Mary and Charles Arthur Melton were united in marriage on June 6, 1939 in Ava. Mr. Melton preceded Mary in death on Feb. 4, 2002. Mary was a homemaker and a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Also preceding Mary in death were her parents, and one sister, Eleanor Walters.
Mary is survived by six children, Charles “Chuck” Melton Jr., Ava, Dennis W. Melton, state of Georgia, Mary Beth Melton, Reading, Mass., and Patricia Wenke, David Melton and James Melton, all of the state of California; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one sister, Peggy Tucker, Pleasant Hill; an honorary son, Don Boden; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 21, in the Mound Grove Cemetery, Independence, with Elder Kenneth Tucker officiating.
