Hazel McAllister, 74

A resident of the Ava area for most of her life Hazel Roberta McAllister, the daughter of Homer Lewis Duckworth and Elizabeth “Lizzie” (Daves) Duckworth, was born April 30, 1932, and departed this life April 10, 2007, at the age of 74.

Hazel was a resident of the Ava area for most of her life. Hazel was a homemaker and had been employed with Oxford. She had done in-home personal care and picked apples in Washington.

On June 16, 1965, Hazel and Rev. Buell Woodrow McAllister were united in marriage in Ava. Hazel and Buell were blessed with a daughter, Lisa.

Hazel and Buell were actively involved in Christian ministry in many different churches in the area.

Hazel was a member of the Ava General Baptist Church. She enjoyed doing embroidery work, loved watching the food channel, reading, and loved watching baseball, especially the Chicago Cubs and Atlanta Braves.

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Virgil Duckworth and Claude Edward Duckworth, and a sister-in-law, Norma Duckworth.

Hazel is survived by her daughter, Lisa McAllister, Ava; two brothers, Norman Duckworth, and Bill Duckworth and his wife, Velma, all of Ava; and other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, April 13, at the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Rev. Oren Alcorn officiating. Interment will follow in the Ava Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Otter Creek Cemetery or Thornfield Cemetery, or to the donor’s choice.
