Beloved husband and father Dale H. Walker, 77, a beloved husband and father, of Raymore, passed away, Friday, March 23, 2007 in Kansas City, after a lingering illness.
Dale Hudson Walker was born April 11, 1929, near Girdner, in Douglas County, the youngest of six children, to L.W. Walker and Flossie (Hudson) Walker. Dale attended school at rural Kolb School and was graduated from the Ava High School with the class of 1947.
After graduating he left Douglas County and worked in the fields of Illinois and Iowa, later enlisting with the Air Force and was stationed at Kelley Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, earning the rank of staff sergeant. While in the service Dale met a young lady who worked at a watermelon stand. It wasn’t long until Dale and Alice Fields were married, Aug. 6, 1954, in San Antonio, Texas.
After leaving the Air Force, Dale and Alice lived briefly on the family farm in Douglas County, then he began a career with Bendix in Kansas City that lasted 37 1/2 years.
After retirement Dale remained active working with his wife in her wedding cake business and helping his youngest son with his lawn service.
Dale Walker is survived by his wife, Alice Walker, of the home; one daughter and her husband, Kathy Hicks and David, of Lee’s Summit; two sons and their wives, Steve Walker and Debbie, of Blue Springs, and Mike Walker and Jennifer, of Raymore; five grandchildren, Sarah, Steven, BreAnn, Blair and Landon; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Spurlock, of Squires; two nieces and two nephews.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother and two infant sisters, and a sister, Ruth Maxine O’Neal.
Funeral Services were held Tuesday, March 27, at Mount Moriah and Freeman Funeral Home in Kansas City, with burial following in the Mount Moriah Cemetery with full military honors at the graveside.
