Everett William Lawrence, 83

Born in Douglas County near the Merritt community Everett William “Bill” Lawrence, 83, Oldfield, passed away Saturday morning, March 24, 2007, in his home.

He was born May 18, 1923, in Douglas County near the Merritt community, the son of Lloyd and Maggie (Williams) Lawrence. On Aug. 25, 1939, he was united in marriage to Elma Adams and to this union four children were born. On Oct. 11, 1997, he was united in marriage to Barbara Melton.

Everett was preceded in death by his parents; the mother of his children, Elma Lawrence; two brothers, Johnny and Edgar Lawrence; and a great-grandson, Zephan Lawrence.

Everett is survived by his wife, Barbara; his four children, Martha Stillings-Booth, of Ava, Kathy Tate, Tucson, Arizona, Lloyd Lawrence and wife, Sue, of Lindale, Texas, and Linda Jean Chapman and husband, Danny, of Sparta, Tenn.; one adopted daughter, Mindy Snodgrass, of Florida; seven stepchildren, Micky Millstead, Gary Millstead, Debbie Arnn, Cathy Sanders, Bob Felty, Sally Felty and Russell Yates; one sister, Mary Lee Johnson, of Maysville; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and many caring friends.

Graveside services were held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 28, in West Huffman Cemetery, Ava, under the care and direction of Barnes Family Funeral Home, Ozark, with the Rev. Mark Hatcher officiating.

Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, March 27, in Barnes Family Funeral Home, Ozark.
